Opening Our Doors for Business

Wauchula State Bank opens for business on April 24, 1929.

1932

Crews Becomes Owner of Wauchula State Bank

While working for a Panama City bank, J.W. Crews, Sr. acquires controlling interest in Wauchula State Bank on May 25, 1932.

Generational Heritage

J.W. Crews, Sr. moves to Wauchula and becomes President of Wauchula State Bank. At age 26, Crews is the youngest bank president in the U.S., according to the American Bankers Association.

Enduring Strength, Timeless Values

Our landmark clock was installed on the northwest corner of the Wauchula State Bank building in Wauchula and is still operational today. It stands as a symbol of our tradition and history.

Branching into Desoto County

First State Bank of Arcadia, now Crews Bank & Trust, is established and opens doors on N. Brevard Avenue.

J.W. "Bill" Crews, Jr. Named President

One of only three people to have served as president of both the Florida Bankers Association (FBA) and the Community Bankers of Florida, Bill received the FBA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016.

Expanding Our Potential

The Crews family establishes Crews Banking Corporation and DeSoto Banking Corporation holding companies. DeSoto Banking Corporation purchases controlling interest in First State Bank of Arcadia.

Third Generation

Representing the third generation of the Crews family, J.W. "Jim" Crews, III joins the management team and is named President of First State Bank of Arcadia in 1992.

Branching into Charlotte County

Charlotte State Bank opens on Tamiami Trail, near Midway Boulevard in Port Charlotte, with Crews Banking Corporation owning controlling interest. Charles Brown II is named bank president.

Local businessman Ferold A. Davis serves as President.

Broadening Our Accessibility

With a growing number of customers, Crews family of banks open 11 new branches.

Trusted Advisors for Generations

Charlotte State Bank establishes Trust powers, creating a Trust and Investment Management Services division. DeSoto Banking Corporation merges with Crews Banking Corporation.

Crews Banking Corporation purchases controlling interest in Englewood Bank, making Crews Banking Corporation a four-bank holding company.

Fourth Generation

J.W. "Jake" Crews, IV joins the management team as a fourth generation Crews family member and today serves as CEO and Chairman of all four holding company banks.

Jake continues to build upon his family's heritage through his passion for technology and dedication to customer relationships.
